Vancouver Pediatric Dentistry

In the Community

Serving and giving back to our community is very important to our pediatric dental practice. We encourage our young patients to get involved as well. Creating healthy habits early is important to a lifelong practice of giving. As a practice, we are involved in our community through teaching, fund raising, giving and leadership.

You will find us teaching young mothers at the Mother’s Share Group and the Mommies and Movers at SW Washington Medical Center, and at the Teen’s Mothers class for the Evergreen School District. Dr. Peter is a Clinical Professor at Oregon Health and Sciences University and Dr. Pete and Dr. Joe are involved in teaching about pediatric dentistry at Clark College Dental Hygiene School. Most enjoyable for us is teaching young children about dental health. Dr. Peter is the Clark County Dental Society Chairman for National Children’s Dental Health Month. Dr. Peter and Dr. Joe travel to preschools through first grade classes and perform an educational puppet show

We support many community groups, from sports teams to the Christian Youth Theater. One that we are most proud of is the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an annual fund raiser to find a cure for cancer. We have traditionally had a booth at the Columbia River High School Relay for Life. We have switched over to the Camas/Washougal Relay for Life at Fishback Stadium to help grow the east side event. It is usually the first Saturday in June and we encourage everyone to visit and support this wonderful event.

One does not enter into the Health Services profession without a heart and desire to help the less fortunate. That is why the doctors have helped start the Free Clinic of SW Washington Dental Program, volunteering twice monthly at the clinic. Dr. Peter is currently the Dental Director for the clinic and also serves on the board of directors. The program started in 2005 with Dr. Peter working the first clinic. The clinic serves low-income, uninsured individuals. In conjunction with this program is Children’s Dental Health Day, an annual event on the first Saturday in February. This program began in 2007 and our entire staff is involved. Dr. Peter is the Chairman for the Children’s Dental Health Day. Each year around 300 children are treated by volunteer dental professionals and around $90,000 worth of dental work is preformed.

Oregon Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (OAPD), the Clark County Dental Society (CCDS), and the Washington State Dental Association (WSDA). Dr. Pete has served as editor of the dental society newsletter and Chairman of Peer Review for over 15 years, and is a past-president of the CCDS. Dr. Joe is the current treasurer of both the Clark County Dental Society and the Oregon Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Peter is a past-president of the CCDS and OAPD. Both Dr. Peter and Dr. Pete are delegates to the WSDA. This is important because we are involved in the policies that shape dentistry and protect our patients.

We believe that leading by example is important, and we will be encouraging your child to volunteer and give back to our community.
